Stargazing & Storytelling

Glenola Park, La Canada, 91011

Join singer-songwriter and teaching artist Jessica Gerhardt for an evening of stargazing and storytelling on the evening of the Perseides Meteor Shower! Jessica will guide participants in identifying some of the most prominent summer constellations and will tell stories and share myths of how they came to be known as they are.

Then after the astronomy lesson, she will lead a few creative exercises to help each person create song lyrics, a poem, a short story or a visual art piece inspired by the stories of the stars. Participants will then have a chance to share their creations with the group if they would like. It'll be a great opportunity for meeting new people, learning about the constellations, and stretching your creative muscles. Kids are welcome too!

We will meet at Glenola Park in La Canada Flintridge at 8pm to carpool up Angeles Crest Hwy together. We will find a turnout for the group of us to park and begin our stargazing and storytelling session. Bring a notebook, pen or pencil, sketch pad, or whatever medium for creativity you would like. Bring a blanket or cushion to sit on and jacket/coat and pants because it will likely be very cool up in the mountain. Bring a flashlight or your phone to provide enough light for your writing/drawing/artmaking time.

Suggested donation is $15.
